1. Truth-Seeking

We exist to seek the truth. Where the truth refuses to be loaded, we substitute our best guess and proceed regardless.

2. Independence

Our journalism is produced free from outside influence, commercial pressure, and, in the case of feature Moonee Valley night meetings, intimidation.

3. Conflicts of Interest

Staff disclose any financial interest in the subjects they cover, except where that financial interest pertains to a first-starter we’ve hidden at the Burrumbeet jump outs.

4. Verification

Every fact is verified against at least one source we trust and one from a verified (blue tick) account on Racing Twitter/X.

5. Right of Reply

Subjects of unflattering coverage are always offered the opportunity to respond. Aggrieved parties may direct all responses to our Head of Wagering & Risk, Olivia Octopussy, via [email protected]

6. Access

Access to sources does not adversely influence our coverage. We rarely have access to begin with. If anybody has Birdcage passes for Derby Day, please hook us up.

7. Accountability

When we are wrong, we say so — prominently, and with the full weight of an institution that has been wrong many times before and expects to be again. When we are right, we reserve our right to quote Top Fluc, Best Tote or SP — whichever is higher.

8. Editorial Autonomy

All editorial decisions are made independently of ownership and management, except in circumstances where the sling is big enough.
