Once a month, nine brave punters meet up in a local community hall to bare their souls in an attempt to heal from the damage caused by backing Alligator Blood in the 2019 Caulfield Guineas.

All nine were on-course that fateful day and all nine went the early crow at various stages from the 200m to the 50m mark, before exhilaration turned to despair as Super Seth sprouted wings and nailed Alligator Blood on the post.

“There was even some high-fiving and hugging between ‘Blood’ backers, it’s just heartbreaking to look back on it,” chair of the group Steve Pigdon told The Pakistan Star.

“I have this recurring nightmare where Matt Hill is saying ‘Alligator Blood is stopping!’ over and over. I wake up screaming.”

Not one of the nine has been back to the races since, but after negotiating the five stages of grief — “we were stuck on ‘denial’ for a long time” — Pigdon said the group is ready to return to The Heath and leave their collective devastation behind.

“We’ll have a few drinks, a couple of bets, and just be gentle with ourselves. It’s a bit too early for a group quaddie - we’re not there yet,” Pigdon said.

The Pakistan Star understands that media coverage of Super Seth's recent success at stud has proven particularly "triggering" for some members of the group.
