A local punter has cashed out of a potentially lucrative racing multi after being spooked by a betting drift.
Parking inspector Simon Shrinkwell made the spineless call to parachute out of his five-leg mixed Bordertown and Warracknabeal wager after the third leg saluted at $3.00, following earlier wins at $2.20 and $2.80.
The 32-year-old, who had $20 on the multi at odds of $88, elected to hit the eject button after seeing his fourth selection drift from even-money out to $2.70.
“That drift tells you everything you need to know,” Shrinkwell reportedly told associates, before eagerly accepting a low-ball cash out offer from his bookmaker.
However, despite vigorous death-riding from Shrinkwell, the ‘drifter’ duly bolted in under hands-and-heels to defy the late market wobble, sending the multi terminator into what witnesses described as a shame spiral.
“No comment,” a rattled Shrinkwell told The Pakistan Star while hurriedly making his way past reporters.
This masthead can report that Shrinkwell’s final leg has been a significant firmer from $2.40 into $1.85, and is now a deadset moral.
More to follow.
