A Sydney man has reportedly refreshed the Bureau of Meteorology radar 63 times since breakfast, as he sweats on a long-range Everest futures bet on Hong Kong superstar Ka Ying Rising.

With the dual-threat of a rain-affected track and a low-flying Tempted looming large for Saturday’s Randwick assignment, it is understood 38-year-old cello tutor Clinton Puddleby has also downloaded a rival weather app “for a second opinion”.

“I’m not worried haha, he’ll be too good regardless,” Puddleby told his wife, before refreshing the radar again.

The Pakistan Star understands the last time Puddleby showed this level of interest in a rain band was in the halcyon days of Wu Gok, whose wet-track prowess paid for a $14,000 hot tub now sitting unplumbed in his Marrickville garage.

“Can you believe they bet 20s on the heavy in the Lord Mayor’s Cup?” the man said wistfully as he switched the radar to the ‘rain rate’ view.
