A local man has made a silent connection with a stranger at a spring wedding, after spotting a fellow guest two pews away looking down at his phone intermittently during the ceremony’s emotional climax.

Although he couldn’t see the other man’s screen, 36-year-old Callum Dwyer recognised the deep concentration and body language immediately.

“I could tell this bloke knew what he was doing, it wasn’t his first rodeo,” Dwyer told The Pakistan Star.

“I suspected he might even have a rugby background the way he was protecting that phone, keeping it so close to his chest.

“After a while I realised he’d even backed the same horse as me, the way he was tensing up at the finish and leaning to one side willing Linda Meech to get it home,” Dwyer revealed.

As the horses crossed the line, the two men caught each other’s eye across the aisle, sharing a single, solemn nod of mutual respect, which members of the bridal party mistook for a touching endorsement of the union.

Dwyer, who had attended the wedding under sufferance, admitted he missed most of the minister’s remarks on love and commitment, but was “radiating as much goodwill as anyone in the room” once the funds hit his account.

The Pakistan Star understands the two men made a beeline for each other as soon as the post-ceremony mingling began in earnest, later cementing their bond by pooling their winnings for an Ascot quaddie.
