FROM THE VAULT

A quiet day watching the races on TVN at nanna’s house has become a mad dash to the TAB for one local grandson.

Maureen Callahan, 78, had been settled in her armchair with a cup of tea when she spotted the familiar silks, as runners made their way onto the track ahead of the 2500m G2 Moonee Valley Cup.

“Hang on, isn’t that that French horse that shit in the Melbourne Cup? Why is it showing $3.50?” she enquired, adjusting her glasses.

“And who the fuck is Tullamore?” she asked, in reference to the other market fancy, before determinedly making her way to her secret cash stockpile: a Tupperware container in the freezer labelled ‘Casserole, 1981’.

The Pakistan Star understands that grandson Jack, 22, was then handed a thick wad of fifties and hundreds and told to “load up”, and that she would “look after him” if he got the bet on in time.

“Mosse can even ride it six-deep again today, it will have panels on these.”

More to follow.
