Form expert Brandon Banks, 31, believes his vantage point from the couch gives him the ability to analyse almost every aspect of a race in real-time, allowing him to form valuable educational insights that are then swiftly shared on X (formerly Twitter).

“I just understand race-riding instinctively,” Banks, who has never ridden a horse before, told The Pakistan Star.

“Basically the horses have crossed the line and within 30 seconds I’m posting to social about who did what wrong, sometimes even 20 seconds if I don’t have to find the jockey’s X handle,” he said.

“The riders get to read them once they get their phones back, and hopefully they’ve learned something.

“I’ve only got a split-second to make these decisions but you just have to trust your ability in the moment to get it right.”

Last Saturday was a particularly charitable one for Banks, sacrificing his entire afternoon to volunteer detailed, unsolicited online feedback to a host of riders including leading jockeys James McDonald, Tommy Berry and Jamie Melham.

Banks also regularly takes time out of his Sundays to provide free tutoring to nine-time Hong Kong champion Zac Purton.

“Sometimes my tweets exceed the character limit, but I have no qualms jumping into their DMs if I’ve got a more detailed race breakdown to share,” Banks said.

Banks said his unwavering commitment to jockey education sometimes took him away from family and meant precious little downtime, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.  

“I don’t really expect people to thank me for it, that’s not why I do this. At the end of the day I’m just trying to help make others better,” Banks said.
