Scientists have linked the recent Melbourne earthquakes to Might And Power's destructive 1998 G1 Cox Plate win, with analysis of the seismic data revealing a waveform signature consistent with delayed aftershocks.

Senior seismic analyst Dr Fiona Shakeley said the epicentre of last Saturday's 4.8 magnitude event, the first of two tremors, sits almost exactly beneath the Moonee Valley home straight.

"When we worked backwards from the tremor, the original rupture matched a dominant display of front-running on October 24, 1998," she said.

Dr Shakeley said the quake's 28-year lag was unusual but not unprecedented, noting that low-frequency activity of that kind can occur long after "the earth starts to rumble".

The Pakistan Star understands that the only comparable event on record was in the direct aftermath of the 2024 G1 Manikato Stakes, when a number of Growing Empire backers reportedly simultaneously collapsed, triggering a localised seismic disturbance across the Moonee Ponds region.
