Melbourne man Luke Vanderlay, 27, admits he’s been swept up in 49ers fever this week. And the retail assistant isn’t going to let a distinct lack of NFL knowledge stop him from riding the wave.

“My ‘anchor leg’ was going to be Colin Kaepernick for 200+ passing yards but apparently he hasn’t played since 2017,” Vanderlay told this masthead.

“I’m pretty sure I get my bet back if one of the eight legs fails, so I’m pretty much covered either way,” he said.

“I punted my way through the soccer World Cup knowing only two players, Ronaldo and Messi, so I’m confident I’ll be able to find a way to put something together here.”

Vanderlay revealed that he ended up “slightly down” from his World Cup bets.
