Inspired by the alpha punting energy on display at yesterday’s Call of the Card, The Pakistan Star has placed the biggest cash wager yet on Tuesday’s G1 Melbourne Cup, backing Irish galloper Trustyourinstinct to win $100 million.

Representatives of the hugely popular horse racing news publication struck a $14.3 million win bet on the six-year-old to ensure the $100 million profit — which is believed to be the biggest in racing history if it does land — after reading Andrew Hawkins’ Melbourne Cup preview, which tipped Joseph O’Brien’s stayer on top.

Editor James Whitetail told his own masthead that after a “highly successful” spring carnival digital launch, it was time for The Pakistan Star to branch out into some revenue streams that were “less volatile” than online news content.

Bookmaker Robbie Waterhouse — whose trademark fearless approach to accepting bets was on full display at Crown yesterday — said he would be “honoured” to pay out the $100 million should ‘J-Mac’ boot Trustyourinstinct home.
