Compliance officer Glen Chafe has gone up in the esteem of colleagues after putting on a masterclass in looking busy and focused.
Multiple co-workers observed Chafe looking “completely dialled in” at his work station, jaw set and eyes never leaving the screen.
“He just works so bloody hard,” said one awestruck workmate.
"He won't let anybody help him either — the bloke just doesn't know how to switch off."
However, The Pakistan Star can reveal that although Chafe had multiple work-related tabs open on his monitor, the 39-year-old’s attention was firmly fixed on a live chat with a corporate bookmaker’s customer service representative, as he chased up the whereabouts of a missing bonus bet.
This masthead has viewed the transcript of the lengthy exchange and understands Chafe was aggressively inquiring about ‘bonus cash’ that had not been credited to his account, after his win bet finished third in the Sandown Hillside opener.
Reports indicate Chafe eventually secured the $10 bonus, immediately deploying it on an Exacta (second favourite to beat the favourite) on the next race to jump.
It is understood Chafe remains in line for a promotion, with his aura of diligence said to have captured the attention of senior management.
More to follow.
